Final Days of Summer: Great House Plans with Sunrooms

The beginning of the school year always makes me more aware that my wonderful summer days are coming to an end. Fall and winter are coming and that means that I need to enjoy the last of the summer days before they are gone. One of the things that I enjoy the most, and I got this from my grandmother, is enjoying a nice cup of coffee on a summer morning and watching the sun come up. It’s a simple thing, but it just brings me so much joy.

I actually get up early every morning. My husband has to be at work before the sun rises so I am usually awake about the time that the graveyard shift is getting off of work. I get to enjoy my coffee and wake up slowly every morning before the kids get up. I hoard this time to myself. This is when I get to read my books and catch up on my tv shows. It’s also the time when I get some peace and quiet. I just wish I had a sunroom on our house to enjoy the sunrise.

My husband and I have actually talked about closing in the back porch and making it into either a screened in porch or closing it in completely and turning it into a sunroom. I would enjoy either one of those ideas, but a sunroom appeals to me more because I don’t like being cold.

Great House Plans with Sunrooms

Nelson Design Group has thousands of house plans with loads of features, so it wasn’t hard to find some really great ones with sunrooms. So, let’s look at a few of them.

Eudocia (NDG 1401)

This brick and stone house plan give you just over 4,800 square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths. It also has a 3-car garage. This plan features a large open floor plan that incorporates the kitchen, great room, and breakfast room. It also features a very large first floor master suite with a luxurious master bath. The basement gives you room for a game area and a home theater.

The first thing that you notice about the home is the unusual front porch and the detailing with the arches in the front of the home. This gives this home a very sophisticated look for some great curb appeal. As you step into the home from the Covered Porch, you find yourself in the Foyer.

Now this is a proper Foyer that instantly makes you think of large houses and old-world style. It has a high ceiling and continues into the Great Room. On the left side of the Foyer, you find Bedroom 2 which can also be used as a Study. This features the high ceiling and a large window facing the front of the home.

One the right side of the Foyer, you find the Dining Room which also has a high ceiling and features a large picture window facing the front of the home. The Dining Room has an entrance to the large Kitchen area. This Kitchen is part of a large open floor plan that features the Breakfast Room and Great Room as well.

The Kitchen features lots of counterspace to pep meals as well as a large center island with a sink. There is also a bar area that gives you seating for 4 and room for a dishwasher. The Breakfast Room features large windows that open out to the Screened Porch on the rear of the home.

The Great Room features a high ceiling with faux exposed beams and a brickwork fireplace. There is a Media Center built into the side of the fireplace with room for your entire collection of DVDs. The Great Room opens up to the Sunroom on the rear of the home.

This room features 2 full walls of windows and a vaulted ceiling. Not only does it give you a spectacular view of the rear of the home and the deck, but it features a private entrance to Bedroom 4. Bedroom 4 and Bedroom 3 are on this side of the home and they share the hall accessed Bathroom and both feature large closets.

On the other side of the home you will find the Master Suite that has high boxed ceilings. The Master Bath is accessed through a small hallway that runs between two walk-in closets. The Master Bath features both a whirlpool tub and a glass block corner shower.

The Basement is where the real fun is. Down here you will find a large open floor plan that includes a Lower Kitchen, a Game Area and a Gathering Area. The Lower Kitchen, while not as large as the upstairs kitchen, gives you enough room to comfortably cook and has a storage room directly behind it.

The Game Area gives you large windows that open up to the Covered porch at the rear of the home. The Gathering Area gives you plenty of room to relax and has patio doors that open up to the optional patio. The basement also contains an Optional Bedroom with a large walk in closet and an in-suite bathroom.

This home also gives you your own personal Home Theater with plenty of room and seating for 9 people in honest to goodness theater style seating.

Willow Lane (NDG 327)

This house plan gives you just under 3,000 square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. It also gives you a 2-car garage. This home just oozes European charm and is sure to make you love it with its large kitchen, a great room featuring both a fireplace and a built-in media center and its luxurious master bathroom.

This home has great curb appeal. The columns and gables in the front of the home just make you want to walk in and have a seat. It has a wonderful European Style. As you walk into the home you enter the Foyer with tall, 12-foot-high ceilings.

On the right of the Foyer you find Bedroom 2 which can also be used as a Study. This room features both high ceilings and a large window that faces the front of the home. To the left of the Foyer is the Dining Room. This Room is large enough for a table of any size and features both the high ceilings as well as a large window facing the front of the home.

From the Dining Room, you can make your way into the Kitchen. This Kitchen and Breakfast Room feature a great deal of counterspace to prepare any elaborate meals. It also has a small desk in the corner that would be an ideal space to sit and pay bills or look up recipes. The Breakfast Room features large windows that look out onto the Screened Porch and the rear of the home.

The Great Room gives you plenty of space to relax and features a fireplace and built in media center. The French doors on the back wall of the space open up to the Sunroom at the rear of the home. This space allows you to enjoy the great outdoors no matter the weather and features a French door opening into the backyard of the home, a long bank of windows looking in the same direction and two skylights.

This side of the home also features Bedrooms 3 and 4. These rooms give you plenty of space for kids or guests and feature large closets and windows. They share the hall bathroom on this side of the plan.

The Master Suite features high boxed ceilings and a private opening up to the Screened Porch on the rear of the home. The Master Bath can be accessed through a small hallway that runs between the large walk-in closets. It features both a whirlpool tub and a corner glass shower with a seat. This home also gives you plenty of attic storage.

Bishop Court (NDG 1453)

This house plan gives you just under 2,500 square feet of living space and features 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. It also gives you a 3-car garage. This home has two master suites! It also has a wonderful open floor plan that features the kitchen, breakfast room, sunroom and great room. Don’t overlook the safe room on the first floor!

I love the roofline on this home. It just gives it a wonderful old world almost gothic look. It definitely catches your attention. You enter the home through the covered porch and find yourself in the Foyer. The Foyer opens up to the hallway and then into the large open floor plan.

This open floor plan features the Kitchen, Great Room, Breakfast Room, and Sunroom. The Kitchen lies in the corner of this section and has plenty of counter space for you to prep meals. It also features a large Pantry for even your biggest shopping trips. The space is broken up by a bar/island with seating for 5 and a sink and dishwasher.

The Breakfast Room gives you a large opening to the Covered Porch on the rear of the home. The Great Room features vaulted ceilings and a gas brickwork fireplace. The Sunroom has two walls of windows that let in the maximum amount of sunlight and leads to the Covered Porch on the rear of the home.

Bedroom 3 gives you a large closet and has access to the hall bathroom. The Laundry Room is right outside this third bedroom which is great for kids. And gives you plenty of space to fold and sort your clothes.

This plan gives you two Master Suites that are the mirror images of each other. Each Master Bedroom has a large window facing the front of the home and two smaller casements facing the respective sides of the home. Each has a high tray style ceiling and access to a large walk in closet. Each Master Bath features a corner shower with plenty of room.
