Christmas Rooms - Great Plans with Perfect Storage Options Part 1
Christmas Rooms - Great Plans with Perfect Storage Options Part 1
Published at December 15 2024 by JFord
Christmas in our house is a pretty big deal. We put up the tree as soon as it is socially acceptable and only take it down right before January 1st. We buy way too many gifts for the girls and tend to overspend on each other. This is one of those times of the year when happiness and joy at the simple things is not only accepted but is encouraged. But if there is one thing that I wish I didn’t have to do; it would be the actual decorating and undecorating of the tree. It tends to be a headache every year.
I don’t know if you have heard of one of the newest trends that is coming through right now, but there is something called a “Christmas Room" and it is becoming very popular. A “Christmas Room" is basically where you can store all the things that go with your holiday decorating without you having to do much to pack it up.
Great Plans with Perfect Storage Options
So, each one of the plans that we are going to look at has a space that would be perfect for a “Christmas Room." MEN 5030 has a spare room that can be used for a mechanical room or for an office. I saw that space and knew it would be perfect for a “Christmas Room". SMN 1040 has a storage room in the laundry room that would be the perfect size to store a tree. And NDG 501 has a large storage room with shelves that is right off of the great room, which makes it super convenient to store a tree that was being displayed in the great room.
Appalachian Trail (MEN 5030)
This gorgeous rustic style house plan from award winning designer Michael E. Nelson is guaranteed to give you both the simplicity which is characterized with the rustic style as well as the luxury you have come to expect from Nelson Design Group. This house plan gives you just under 4,000 square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths and 1 half bath. The exterior of this home catches your eye with those beautiful exposed beams over the front porch. Inside, this home gives you plenty of space to grow with a large open floor plan and loads of windows that look over the rear of the home and the massive outdoor living area.
As you approach the home, the first thing that you notice about it is the exposed rustic beams over the covered front porch. Talk about your curb appeal! This covered porch gives you plenty of space to come in out of the rain and cold and features not only those lovely exposed beams but also a small vaulted ceiling over the entry way.
As you step into the home, you find yourself in the foyer. The foyer features a vaulted ceiling that is continued from the front porch. To the left of the foyer is the formal dining area. This space is perfect for entertaining and gives you a beautiful double window that faces the front of the home.
From the dining room you can make your way through the barn style door into the kitchen. This large kitchen has enough space to make even the most exacting chefs happy. This kitchen has counter tops that wrap on both sides of the space and gives you plenty of room to prep a meal.
In the middle of the space you will find a large island that gives you even more counterspace and optional bar seating with room for 3. Separating the great room and the kitchen is another piece of countertop that has bar seating for 4 and has a large double sink and dishwasher. This is a perfect space to clean up after a meal and keep and eye on the comings and goings in the great room.
The kitchen is part of an open floor plan that incorporates the great room, kitchen and breakfast room. Adjacent to the kitchen is the breakfast room. This space is dominated by the wall of windows that face the rear of the home and the large outdoor living area. Between the great room and the breakfast room is the entrance to the massive grilling porch on the rear of the home.
This outdoor living area continues the rustic theme of the rest of the home with exposed timbers and a partially covered space with a vaulted ceiling. The grilling porch runs the entire length of the home between the smaller bedrooms and the master suite and is shown to perfection through the wall of windows in the open floor plan from the breakfast room and great room.
Moving back inside through the double sliding doors, you will find yourself in the great room. This space has that lovely wall of windows that looks over the rear of the home but there is more here vying for your attention. The great room also features a large fireplace, which is so typical in a rustic style home design, and a media center that is built in beside it.
On the other side of the wall from the fireplace, you will find a small hallway that gives you access to the smaller bedrooms on this side of the plan. At the rear of the plan you will find bedroom 4. This bedroom gives you double closets and a double window that looks out over the rear of the home. It can access an in-suite bathroom through a pocket door.
At the front of the home, you will find bedroom 2 which can also be used as a study, gives you a single deep closet and a double window that faces the covered porch on the front of the home. This bedroom/study can access the bathroom that is directly across the hall from it.
The third smaller bedroom sits in between bedrooms 4 and 2. This bedroom has a small walk-in closet and a single window that faces the side of the home. Bedroom 3 has access to the same bathroom that bedroom 2 does through a door within the room.
On the other side of the plan you will find the master suite, a large laundry area and a mudroom with its own half bath. If you come in from the garage, you will find yourself in a large mudroom area that gives you a bench with storage to get rid of any dirty shoes on the way in. Opposite from this mudroom is a half bath.
On the other side of the mudroom is the large laundry room. This laundry room gives you countertops that circle the edge of the space. This gives you plenty of room to sort and fold. The laundry room also features a soaking sink for those tough stains and storage space over the washer and dryer hook ups.
The master suite gives you plenty of room to relax and unwind after a long day. The Master bedroom features an optional private entrance to the grilling porch on the rear of the home as well as two windows that face onto your property. The master bath gives you both a large shower and a whirlpool tub with access to the large walk-in closet on the rear of the home.
Cascade Drive (SMN 1040)
This 2,600 square foot home gives you 3 Bedrooms and 4.5 Bathrooms and features a 3 car Garage. This home has such a lovely look to it. It makes you think of the old French country houses or somewhere in Great Britain. It just has that air to it. This home is classic. The interior of the home gives you plenty of space with a large open floor plan that includes the dining room, great room and kitchen. The master bedroom just oozes charm with a vaulted ceiling and large triple window facing the front of the home.
You step into the home from the Porch and find yourself in the Foyer that gives you access to both a small coat closet and the half bathroom. I love house plans that have practical placements of bathrooms. (Yes, I’m a bit of a dork.) The foyer is also where you find the stairs to the second floor.
Moving from the Foyer, you find yourself in an open floor plan featuring the Great Room, Dining Room and Kitchen. This entire space has faux beams that gives the space an “old world" feeling and lends itself to the rustic simplicity of the home.
The Great Room features a large sliding back door unit that leads out onto the Covered Porch. The Kitchen has a huge island in the middle with plenty of prep space and seating for 7. The Kitchen continues to wow with a long stand of counter tops, a professional size gas range and a prep sink for all of those dishes that tend to pile up while you flambé and sear your meals to perfection.
The Kitchen also gives you access to a large pantry with build in shelving and a picture window. Yes, a picture window in a pantry! And the Dining Area gives you a perfect space to feature your culinary works of art with large windows on the exterior walls that face out onto the rear of the home.
The Master Suite includes another large picture window facing out of the front of the home and a vaulted ceiling. The Master Bath features a large freestanding tub and a corner shower with a bench. The walk-in closet gives you access to the Laundry Room.
The Laundry Room features a soaking sink and a fold away ironing board as well as counter space to help you fold and organize. The remainder of the first floor is taken by Bedrooms 2 and 3 and their in-suite bathrooms.
Brittany Lane (NDG 501)
This traditional house plan gives you just over 3,300 square feet of living space and features 4 bedrooms and 4 full baths. It also gives you a 3-car garage. This home gives you a sprawling floor plan that is perfect for growing families. This house plan features a large outdoor living space as well as an enormous master bathroom with its own saferoom.
This house plan is deceptively large. It appears to be just a small family home, but on the inside, it is absolutely massive. As you make your way to this home, the first thing that you notice is that it is a very traditional home.
As you enter the home from the covered front porch, you find yourself in the open floor plan foyer and great room. To the left of the foyer you will find the formal dining room. This dining room has a gorgeous coffered ceiling and a beautiful picture window facing the front of the home.
The great room gives you a lovely brickwork fireplace flanked by built-ins and a media center. The great room opens to the grilling porch through lovely French doors. The grilling porch gives you a stamped concrete floor and a summer kitchen and has a vaulted ceiling over it. It opens to the open patio further into the property.
From the great room, you can move around the wall with the fireplace and find bedrooms 2, 3 and 4. Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a connected bathroom and bedroom 4 has its own in-suite bathroom. Bedrooms 2 and 4 each have a lovely area built into the window seat with bookshelves on each side. Which is a book lovers dream. Bedroom 4 has its own entrance to the grilling porch through its bathroom.
On the other side of the great room, you will find the combination breakfast room and kitchen. This kitchen also gives you an arched entryway to the dining room on the front of the home. The kitchen gives you a large pantry and lots of counter space. There is also a large kitchen island with seating for 4. The breakfast room has windows on 2 of the walls and an entrance to the covered porch on the side of the home.
The laundry room and garage are also down this way. The laundry room can double as a hobby room and has spectacular space for anything that you may need it for. There is also a bathroom nestled between the kitchen and the stairs to the second floor.
Moving past the stairs you find yourself in the massive master suite. The master bedroom features French doors that open onto the grilling porch on the rear of the home. It also gives you a gorgeous detailed ceiling. French doors lead you to the master bath where you will find all the room you will ever need.
The master bath features a large whirlpool tub and huge shower with his and hers walk-in closets. Don’t forget about the safe room! It’s found just through his closet.
The second floor gives you plenty of storage space and a bonus room with French doors that open to a balcony that overlooks the great room below. This plan is perfect for a growing family and could be your dream home!
