Dog Days of Summer: Doggone Good House Plans
Dog Days of Summer: Doggone Good House Plans
Published at July 29 2024 by JFord
So, we are right in the middle of summer here in the U.S. and it has been a scorcher. We’ve had temperatures that have hit the high 90’s over the last couple of weeks. Here in the South, we know that it’s just going to get hotter. We’re going to get less rain and just more oppressive heat. Now we’re into what’s called the “Dog Days of Summer."
Now when I was a kid, I took this literally. I thought it was the time when dogs were made. That this was that one special time of year, right before school started, that everyone got their puppies. (Go kid logic!) So, this week we ARE going to take the phrase a little literally.
Doggone Good Houses
Any house is good for a dog as long as there is plenty of love to go around, but we have a few house plans that are exceptional for pet owners. These are the plans that were designed with animal lovers in mind.
Broken Arrow Farms (MEN 5170)
This house plan is modern farmhouse through and through. The first thing that you notice about this plan is the large wraparound front porch. This gives you ample space for you and your family to relax on those hot summer evenings and enjoy the cool breeze.
This home gives you 3,400 square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms and 4 baths. Unlike a traditional farmhouse, this home also gives you a Garage with room for 3 vehicles. Once you step inside from the front porch you immediately find yourself in the Great Room.
This is a feature that is typical with farmhouses. The combined living areas were traditionally in the front of the home and the “work" areas were in the rear of the home. The homes were laid out this way to keep the heat away from the sitting areas and the bedrooms.
The Great Room features a sloped ceiling and built in brickwork fireplace and gives you access to the Kitchen, the Master Suite and the staircase to the second floor. If you move toward the rear of the home from the Great Room, you find yourself in the Kitchen.
The Kitchen features a large “L" shaped island with seating for 6. It also has plenty of counter space and a corner pantry. From the Kitchen you can make your way to the Breakfast Room which can also serve as Office Space. This room features built in shelving and large picture window. Moving back into the Kitchen you can make your way into the Mudroom.
The Mudroom gives you access to the side-loading Garage located at the rear of the home and features a large closet for all of your coats and winter gear. The Mudroom opens up into the Laundry Room. The Laundry Room gives you plenty of counterspace, a built-in hanging rack and a doggy sized shower for your furry friends.
The Kitchen also opens up into the Dining Room with its gorgeous coffered ceiling. The Dining Room has two large windows and opens onto the Grilling Porch at the rear of the home. Moving further down the small hallway, you will notice there is a large pantry with built in shelving.
This pantry was made for the mom who loves to have all of her ingredients on-hand. Ree Drummond would absolutely love this plan! Moving further down the hall, you find Bedrooms 2 and 3. Bedroom 3 is the larger of the two bedrooms and features a walk-in closet and a private bathroom with a tiled shower.
Moving back to the front of the home, you can find the Master Suite. The Master Bedroom features 4 large windows that open onto the wraparound porch. The Master Suite is separated from the walk-in closets by a hallway framed with barn doors. The hallway leads to the Master Bath. The Master Bath features a large tiled shower with a seat, a free-standing tub (a hallmark of the farmhouse style), and his and hers sinks.
The second-floor features Bedroom 4 with its own Sitting Room, walk in closet and connected bathroom. The loft balcony opens up to the Great Room below and gives much needed openness to this space. This plan is perfect for large families with pets!
Highfield Manor (MEN 5038)
This home is the picture of European elegance and style. This plan wouldn’t be out of place in France or Italy. This plan gives you 6,600 square feet of living space featuring 5 bedrooms and an astounding 6.5 bathrooms. Unlike those old drafty chateaus or villas, this home gives you not only all of the modern conveniences we all love and adore, but it also gives you a 3 car Garage for your motorized darlings.
Stepping into the home from the Portico, you find yourself in the Grand Foyer. This space gives you an instant feel for the scope of the home. In the Grand Foyer you notice that there is a grand staircase that winds up to the second floor and to the balcony above.
From the Foyer you can make your way to the Formal Dining Room. This Room opens up to the optional Veranda with French Doors and gives you a wonderful space to entertain. On the other side of the wall from the Dining Room, you will find a Butler’s Pantry. This gives you the perfect place to prep and store drinks while you are having a formal dinner or gathering.
This area of the home also includes a large Laundry Room, a Safe Room, a Mudroom that opens onto the Breezeway from the Motor Court and the half bath. This arrangement allows you and your guests to have optimal comfort while you are moving around in the home.
From the half bath, you can make your way down the hallway to the Hearth Room. This is a perfect space for an informal Living Area or Sitting Room. The Hearth Room features a large fireplace and French doors that open onto the Covered Porch at the rear of the home.
The Hearth Room is part of an open area of the home that flows seamlessly into the Kitchen. This Kitchen features a large island in the middle with seating for 5 making it great for those quick, fly by breakfasts. For those slower mornings when everything is a bit calmer, you can take your breakfast to the Breakfast Room which has a large picture window that overlooks the covered porch and a set of double doors opening onto the Grilling Porch.
Speaking of the Grilling Porch, it features a full bar with seating for 4, space for your grill as well as an outdoor sink for cleaning up while you are grilling. All of this is conveniently arranged together so that you can enjoy it all while you are grilling and cooking.
From the Breakfast Room you can make your way to the last piece on this side of this large home. Nestled in the back corner of this home is your 3 car Garage and Motor Court. This part of the home also holds a full Bathroom and a Dog Room so that your pups can be the happiest that they can be.
If we look at the other side of the home, we can start in the Grand Foyer and move to the Library. This house plan won me over right there. I’ve always wanted my own personal library. This one even features a wet bar! Be still my southern heart!
The Hallway leads you to the Guest Room that has its own in-suite Bathroom and walk-in closet. No more awkward meetings in the middle of the night. Directly across the hall is the Master Suite that features a brickwork fireplace, large window facing the covered porch and a set of French doors that give you access to the covered porch. The Master Bath is enormous and can be accessed either through a connecting hallway or through its own dedicated door.
The Master Bath features a large freestanding tub, corner shower with a rain shower spout and sinks that face each other. This bathroom also gives you access to the private patio on the eastern side of the home. From the Master Suite you can also access the two walk-in closets. One is smaller and is perfect for someone who doesn’t need a lot of space. The other is the size of a small boutique is ideal for that one person we know that’s obsessed with shoes. (Yes, that’s me. I’m that person.)
The second floor of this home features that large balcony that is open to the Grand Foyer below. This floor also features Bedrooms 2, 3 and 4 each with their own in-suite bathroom and walk in closet. This plan also has plenty of attic storage space as well as room for an optional Game Room.
This home will give you all of the options for a home that you could ever need. If you are looking for a Luxury home, this is one of the plans I would definitely say to look at.
Go Bowwow
I don’t do this very often, but I came across a great deal online this week. (Rather Steph did and sent it to me. She finds the best deals!) This is from American Blinds and if you are dealing with this heat, you might want to make sure you have a good set of blinds.
Blinds help to keep the heat out of your home and hold the heat in during the winter. They are quick and easy way to help the energy efficiency of your home. You can also read the blogs about that, too! So, check out this coupon for 40% off until Wednesday!
