Amazing Great Rooms To Weather Out the Storm

Can you believe that it is December already? Time seems to have just flown by! Now that it’s December, its time to start thinking about getting everything ready for the winter. (Unless you happen to live in the Southern Hemisphere and in that case, “Welcome Summer!".) Old man winter is never a kind fellow to deal with and he tends to have some pretty rowdy moods. To help you and yours get through my least favorite season, we are going to look at some fabulous house plans that will make you feel all warm and cozy.
Amazing Great Room to Weather Out the Storm
When you are looking for a house plan, or a home, one of the things you want to pay attention to is the great room. Now, I’m not the most refined person on the block and I call that space the living room. (I have to correct that at least once a day when I’m typing stuff up.)
To me this space is where you go to spend time with your family. This is where you watch those goofy shows on tv and play board games and have those lovely sibling tiffs. So, when you are buying a house or a house plan, make sure that this space is perfect for you and your family.
Three Winds (MEN 5222)
Oh, how I love a good farmhouse plan! And this one is so pretty, too! This sweet little farmhouse plan gives you 2,000 square feet of living space with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms and features a 2 car Garage. Like any good farmhouse plan, this one faces you with a large Covered Front Porch to give some great curb appeal. On the inside of this lovely house plan there is an open floor plan that gives you a large great room and a country style kitchen that has all the space you would need.
As you enter the home, you find yourself in the Foyer that features high 10-foot ceilings. This gives the home a such a nice airy feeling. To the left of the Foyer is the formal Dining Room. This room also has the high 10-foot ceilings and is open to both the foyer and the Great Room.
To the right of the Foyer is the Guest Room/ Bedroom 3 / Study Area. This spacious room features the high ceiling as well as a large picture window facing the front of the home. This Bedroom has a large walk-in closet. This Bedroom connects to Bedroom 2 through their connecting jack and jill bathroom. Bedroom 2 also has a large walk-in closet and two windows facing the side of the home.
The Great Room features faux beams in the vaulted ceiling and a large brickwork fireplace. It also has 2 large entrances to the Grilling Porch on the rear of the home. The Great Room is part of an open floor plan that includes the Kitchen and Breakfast Room. This allows the styling from the Great Room to flow seamlessly to the Kitchen and Breakfast Room.
The Kitchen features a large bar with seating for 6 for those busy mornings with the kids. The Kitchen also features an entrance to a very large Pantry with built in shelves. The Breakfast Room features a large picture window that looks out on to the rear of the home. Moving further into the home you will find a large Laundry room. This has space for your appliances and for a large soaking sink for those tough stains.
The Master Suite finishes out the first floor of this home. The Master Bedroom features 10-foot boxed ceilings and two windows facing the rear of the home. There is also a private entrance to the Covered Walk moving out to the Grilling Porch with its optional fireplace and vaulted ceilings.
The Master Bathroom gives you both a freestanding tub and a corner glass shower. The freestanding tub is a staple in Farmhouse Style house plans and lends an old-world air to the room. The Master Bathroom also features a large walk-in closet to help store and sort all of your clothing.
Chancellor Manor (MEN 5180)
This gorgeous European style house plan has just under 4,000 square feet of living space. It gives you 3 bedrooms, 3 full baths and 1 half bath and a large 3 car garage. This home plan has it all! In this floor plan you will find the height of luxury with a large open floor plan that gives you plenty of space for entertaining and a formal living room with views on two sides. Don’t overlook the winetasting room right next to the wine cellar! The outside of the home has stunning white brick with dark wood accents to highlight the front door and entrances to the garage.
As you approach the home, the first thing that you notice is the white brick that covers the entirety of the home. The dark wood that accents the garage doors and large entry door makes that white brick pop even more.
As you enter the home, you find yourself in the foyer. On the right side of the foyer you will find the study/office. This space is perfect for a home office or for a quiet place to read on a cold winter night. The office gives you a picture window that faces the front of the home and barn style doors that can give you great privacy.
As you move further into the home from the foyer, you find yourself in an open floor plan that includes the great room, kitchen and dining room. The great room is directly in front of the foyer and is an absolutely massive space.
The great room features exposed timber beams and a large fireplace with built-ins bracketing it on each side. The rear wall of the great room has a large sliding glass door. This would be a perfect place for a custom door from Panda Windows and Doors.
This large sliding glass door leads out to the outdoor living area and grilling porch. This uncovered space gives you plenty of room to entertain and cook out. This space also features room for an outdoor kitchen and a grill with a vent a hood.
The Kitchen is separated from the great room by a kitchen island with a built-in informal dining table. This small dining table gives you seating for 4 that is right against the kitchen island. The island gives you space for both a sink and a dishwasher.
The sink and dishwasher face the great room. Making the island a perfect place to clean up and wash up after a meal and be able to keep an eye on the great room. Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining room. This space has great views with windows on two of the walls.
Behind the kitchen and dining room is a hallway that will give you access to the large master suite and laundry room. The master bedroom features a bank of windows on the rear wall that face the rear of the property.
The master bath has plenty of space and features double vanities, a free-standing tub and a corner glass shower. The walk-in closet has plenty of space for storage and has an entrance to the large laundry room.
The laundry room has plenty of storage space and features a long counter on one wall of the space where you can sort and fold. It also has a sink where you can soak anything that may need extra attention.
On the other side of the home you will find bedrooms 2 and 3. Each of the bedrooms has windows that face the rear and front of the home, respectively, and their own sink and walk-in closet. They share the jack and jill style bathroom between them.
The first floor of the home is rounded out with a flex room that is perfect for use as a winetasting room and a wine cellar. These are right next to each other. The wine cellar is large enough to store a modest collection while the tasting room features a high ceiling and a picture window that faces the front of the home.
The second floor has a large bonus room and space for storage. If you choose to build this portion of the house plan, you will have enough room for a loft style bedroom with space for a king bed, its own private sitting area and in-suite bathroom.
Advandale Farms (MEN 5232)
This charming farmhouse style house plan from Award Winning Designer Michael E. Nelson is sure to win your heart. This home plan gives you just over 2,200 square feet of living space with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and 1 half bath. Unlike a traditional farmhouse house plan, this plan gives you a 2-car garage for your mechanical horses. The outside of this home gives you lovely board and batten siding with stone accents and has a unique roofline that really ramps up the curb appeal. On the inside of the plan, you will find a large great room that features a vaulted ceiling and exposed beams. The master suite has plenty of space and is located on the rear of the house for privacy.
Approaching the home, the first thing that you notice is the covered porch. This covered porch has lovely stone accents. You can’t have a farmhouse without a front porch! It just isn’t right.
As you enter the home, you find yourself in the foyer. This space features high ceilings that give it a lovely airy feeling. On the right side of the foyer is the dining room. This space features that same high ceiling and a large window that faces the front of the home and that iconic covered porch.
Moving further into the house from the foyer, you find yourself in an open floor plan that includes the great room, kitchen and breakfast room. The great room has a vaulted ceiling and features a large brickwork fireplace on the left wall of the space. On the rear wall of the great room you will find two large windows and a double entry to the grilling porch on the rear of the home.
The kitchen is separated from the great room by a large kitchen island. This island has bar seating for four and has a space for both the sink and the dishwasher. This island is perfect for cleaning up after a meal or prepping that same meal and being able to keep an eye on the comings and goings in the great room.
The rest of the kitchen gives you space for a large range and has plenty of counter space to help you prep that next big meal. Speaking of big meals, this kitchen has a large pantry space that is perfect for storing all of the groceries you need for that next one. The pantry is so big that it has its own window!
Adjacent to the kitchen is the breakfast room. This space is perfect for informal meals or for small gatherings. The breakfast room features windows on two of the walls of the space to give you the best view possible.
On the left side of the plan, you will find bedrooms 2 and 3. Each bedroom has a window that faces the front and rear of the home, respectively, and has their own vanity and large closet. The bathrooms share a jack and jill style bathroom.
On the other side of the plan you will find the master suite. The master bedroom features tall boxed ceilings and two windows facing the rear of the home. The master bath gives you a double vanity, a freestanding tub and a corner glass shower. The walk-in closet has plenty of storage space and opens up to the laundry room.
The laundry features plenty of storage space over the washer, dryer and sink. The rest of the plan includes a small half bath that also has a place for a storage bench and hanging storage. The second floor of the plan is a bonus room that gives you plenty of space for a future media room or storage space if you choose to build it.
