As you are deciding what features you would like in your next house plan you may be weighing the pros and cons of having an outdoor kitchen. Is it worth your money or are you better off without? Lets start with the cons and get those out of the way. There are two downsides to building an outdoor kitchen, the first of which is cost. When looking at house plans you will be keeping your budget in mind and an outdoor kitchen will add to the cost of your project (but you'll have better resale value down the road which we will discuss more when we get to the pros). The second downside is weather. Rain, snow, wind and sun can damage your equipment. When looking for appliances for your outdoor kitchen make sure they are weather resistant and you'll need to cover them when they are not in use. Now lets move on to the pros, one of the biggest... ENTERTAINING! Outdoor kitchens are great for parties, holidays and family get-togethers. While everyone is gathered outside you wont be stuck inside cooking. Another benefit, as I mentioned earlier, resale value. Outdoor kitchens are becoming more and more popular. Which means it could be a real bonus to potential buyers. And last but certainly not least outdoor kitchens let you cook, outside! That might sound redundant but think about it, when cooking greasy, smoky or overly smelly foods (fish, brisket, fried chicken, etc.) you won't have to fill your home with those lingering odors. An outdoor kitchen could be a great addition to your home creating even more entertaining space and letting you enjoy the outdoors. If you are up to the extra cost and maintenance, an outdoor kitchen may be the perfect feature to add to your next home! Here are a few Nelson Design Group house plans that feature outdoor kitchens:
