The wedding celebrations are complete and your son and daughter-in-law have settled into their new home together. Your daughter is packing her last few boxes into her car as she heads off for college and new adventures. Time has flown by with all the preparation and as the whirl wind of life is starting to settle you’re left with an empty nest. This time is filled with sad partings and happy beginnings for everyone in the family, including you. After spending the last 20+ years focus on the kids it is time to focus on you by building the perfect home for you and your spouse. This could mean it is time to down-size the house for less time spent cleaning and more time spent doing the things you both love together. When down-sizing your home, there are several things to consider. How many guest bedrooms do you need? If your kids do not live nearby you may want to make sure you have the room for holiday weekends spent back at mom and dad’s house. However, if everyone has stayed close by, and your need for a guest bedroom will only be for visits that are few and far between, you can consider having a little less space and only one guest bedroom that can be used as a study or playroom for the grandkids in the meantime. Another thing to consider is are there a few key features that will make this new home perfect for you and your spouse? A fireplace for cozy evenings at home, a front porch to enjoy beautiful Saturday mornings in the cool breeze or maybe a hobby room to pursue all your passions you haven’t had time for before, these could make your house the dream home that you have been looking forward to. Whatever features you decide to have in your new house you’ll know it will perfect for you. Want help finding the perfect empty nester house plan for you?
